Library Design Awards 2019 - Short listed libraries
We received fifteen high calibre submissions to the awards and the judging panel found the decision making and short listing process hard. After careful consideration the judges were delighted to short list seven libraries for the awards.

The Laidlaw Library is an attractive and popular addition to the wide range of library and study spaces at Leeds. The vibrant and busy location aligns with the focus on undergraduate students and the street frontage, integration with heritage environment and iconic public art installation, is welcoming to the city and contributes to widening participation aspirations. The Templeman Library at the University of Kent stands proudly at the heart of the main university campus in Canterbury. It is effectively a substantial and impressive redesign and rebuild of the original library, featuring an innovative extension, which has enabled the university to realise many of its strategic teaching, learning and research ambitions. Roehampton’s new library, positioned directly inside the main campus entrance, makes an impressive and deliberate statement about the place of scholarship and learning in the University. The aim of the development was to extend, refurbish and refresh the Albert Sloman Library - to improve the original structure while maintaining its strong presence. This was a refurbishment project of an existing library; with the aim of creating more study space and IT provision. ‘Elegance and versatility’ underpinned the project, providing the ‘wow factor’ for students.
