In approaching its work, the SCONUL Leadership Task and Finish Group identified the value of supporting reflections on leadership and assisting academic library directors to gain personal reach and strategic influence within their organisations.

The work has been underpinned by a literature review on leading in uncertain times; an investigation into the perspectives of those leading UK universities reported in ‘The view from above; and an investigation into the perspectives of those who have experience of working overseas in ‘The view from beyond’.

SCONUL commissioned consultants Professor David Baker and Alison Allden OBE to undertake the literature review and conduct the research through a series of interviews.
