Open Access Officer

The post holder supports the University’s drive towards open access, particularly the wide dissemination of research publications and other research outputs. Activities include advocacy for open access in all areas of the institution; support and advice for researchers navigating the fast-changing open access landscape, particularly when meeting funder requirements for open access and overseeing the administration of University budgets for open access publishing. The post holder also plays a key part in future strategies and projects designed to develop the services provided to support open access.

The post holder provides advice to departments and to senior colleagues on the impact of developments in the OA publishing environment. The post holder works closely with the academic community, with colleagues across the Library, and with colleagues in other departments, particularly Research and Impact Services. They establish and maintain close links with internal and external stakeholders concerned with the dissemination and impact of research, publishing and the wider OA movement. The post holder is responsible for line management of a member of the Open Research Team.

Open access is a role that permeates a wide range of academic and administrative life in the current environment and the work of the role will involve dealing with senior academics, including the Pro-Vice Chancellors as part of a programme of change to academic culture. Therefore, the post holder needs to have a strong conviction in the work they are doing as well as an ability to handle robust debate and conversation.
