It is taking place in Glasgow from the evening of Wednesday 25th June until Friday 27th June.
The theme of this year’s conference is “The Open Library: Collaborations, collections and challenges” and will give members the chance to consider collection sharing across institutional boundaries, deepening partnerships within the institution and opening up access to users, from different perspectives.
We have an excellent link up of speakers in place, including:
- Laine Farley, Executive Director of the California Digital Library and Board member of the HathiTrust Digital Library, and Anja Smit, University Librarian at Utrecht University and Chair of the Board of Executives of UKB, talking about new models of collective provision of content
- Ben Lund, Chief Technology Officer, Academia.edu; Martin Eve, Lecturer in English Literature, Lincoln School of Humanities, University of Lincoln, Andy Miah, Professor of Ethics and Emerging Technologies & Director of the Creative Futures Institute, University of the West of Scotland and Chris Banks from Imperial College London, talking about sharing of research between academics
- Larry Johnson, Chief Executive Officer at the New Media Consortium talking about the new Horizon Report: 2014 Higher Education which looks at how emerging technologies may impact on learning, teaching, and creative inquiry in HE, and giving us a glimpse of their new Horizon work on academic libraries
- We will also have a discussion about e-books, with Paul Ayris from UCL and Liam Jarnecki, Head of Student Engagement Unit at the NUS, and parallel sessions on the next steps on open access, and on using data to inform library practice and develop services. Tours of Glasgow libraries are also on offer.
