UKRR has conducted research into the level of interest and need among UK academic libraries for an extension of the UKRR project into low-use monographs.

The research discovered there is an appetite within the respondents, especially RLUK libraries, to extend the UKRR project into monographs, however the practicalities of a shared collection need to be explored further before there is institutional commitment. The project also discovered that respondents generally felt there was less overlap in collections than might be expected and the quality of bibliographic records was important as it helps guide decision making in relation to retention or relegation. Benefits included collaboration for the common good, improved ILL, improved holdings data and preservation practices and access to larger collections.
