Academic and research libraries across the world are facing a similar set of challenges in responding to COVID-19 and all that has followed. This launch event for the programme From Adaptive Practice to Service Redesign will bring together speakers from Hong Kong, Europe and Australia to help frame the conversation we have about the mutual challenges and opportunities facing us.  We will share perspectives on our learning around user wishes and needs, about barriers to full digital delivery, and the opportunities the crisis has brought to rethink established patterns of service delivery and user expectation.

Our speakers are:

• Joanna Ball, Head of Roskilde University Library and Open Science at the Royal Danish Library
• Jill Benn, University Librarian at the University of Western Australia
• Louise Jones, University Librarian at Chinese University of Hong Kong and
• Andrew Barker, Director of Library Services at Lancaster University.

2.  Contributions from our panel of international speakers looking at the impact of the pandemic from their national and / or regional perspectives

3.  Open discussion addressing the following questions:

• For each nation or region, how is the pandemic changing how institutions deliver on their missions?
• What short-term adaptations have libraries made in your nation or region, and which do you expect to keep?
• Do you expect the pandemic to have a long-term impact on the shape of your service? What might this look like?
• Has the pandemic had an impact on the positioning of the library within the institution?
