The SCONUL Library Design Awards recognise exceptional design of new or refurbished libraries. The winners of the 2019 awards were announced and celebrated at the Library Design Awards and Showcase on the 26 November at the Royal Armouries Museum in Leeds.

The awards and showcase in November provided delegates with the opportunity to both celebrate and explore the latest thinking on space planning and design of libraries and university campuses.

Delegates heard about the strategic and operational ideas behind the design of the short listed libraries, the Helsinki Central Library, Oodi and the new Waterside campus at the University of Northampton. Delegates had the opportunity to discuss the design principles of the short listed libraries with those who were heavily involved in the projects. In addition they were able to discuss space planning and library services with key suppliers in the exhibition zone.

Our exciting keynote speakers were:

Professor Nick Petford is Vice Chancellor and CEO of the University of Northampton. He has provided the vision and inspiration for the new Waterside campus.

Laura Norris is the Service Manager at the Helsinki Central Library Oodi, the new inspirational public library in Helsinki. Laura's talk will focus on the collaborative development of the library with Helsinki citizens and a range of partners, the role of Oodi in the local community and new ways of working to meet customer expectations.
