Conservation Technician
Conservation Technician is responsible for ensuring the preservation of rare and unique cultural heritage objects and collections in Archives and Special Collections. The role involves undertaking conservation and collections care support activities and routine procedures. The technician will also perform technical tasks like conservation cleaning, storage, packaging, environmental and pest monitoring. They must accurately complete all relevant documentation, ensure health and safety compliance, and advise on purchasing conservation materials. This role involves providing guidance to junior staff and researchers. The successful candidate must have a conservation qualification and experience in a museum, archive, or Special Collections library context. They should also have planning, problem-solving, teamwork, and communication skills. Occasional work outside normal hours may be required.
